News: Google launch new map APIs - access GPS free location data

pocketgpsworld.com
Google have launched two new map APIs that, for the first time, allow developers access to GPS free location and tracking data.

The geolocation API now provides access to cell tower and WiFi node data available to the mobile client. Using this data it is possible to triangulate your position without needing GPS. It's already used by Google for their indoor mapping and now third party developers can utilise it.

The new tracking API will enable developers to create apps for tracking clients, implementing geofences, monitoring assets and storing GPS tracks.
