News: TomTom Announce New Location Referencing Technology
 With a goal of wide-scale adoption, TomTom have announced the development of an open-standard dynamic location referencing technology for the navigation, mapping and ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) industry. The technical community at large can also contribute ideas to improve it.
The aim is to help enhance existing applications by boosting the potential for connected navigation and location-based services on any digital map. It is also hoped that opportunities for new services will be generated.
Designed for traffic information systems and dynamic route guidance, OpenLR is an open-source, royalty-free technology that can be adapted to the requirements of system integrators. It will be used for transferring traffic information and forecasts from a central point to in-vehicle systems, whether built-in or used as an add-on for PNDs (personal navigation devices) or smart phones.
