Hi I have a 19 reg VW Tiguan. You can add POI's via an SD or USB.
Nav/ Manage Memory/ setting but it expects V Card format. I have found a free converter CSV to VCF but its limited to 5 cards at a time.
Does anyone have a link to a free fully fledged CSV to VCF converter |

If it is wanting VCF format then I suspect it is designed more for addresses of your contacts rather than for POIs?
Is the 5 address limit on the SatNav or on the convertor software? |

The 19 Tiguan must use VCF format for POI's. The 5 conversion limit is the conversion software. Basically when you get into NAV/Manage memory you have an option to update POI's or load new POI's from a SD or USB. If you choose Load New POI's if finds the device, in my case an SD card in slot two. It asks you to chose the location folder which I do it then comes up with "No V Cards" found in this folder" message. |

GPS Babel is free (with no limits) and can convert VCard (VCF) format: https://www.gpsbabel.org/capabilities.html
If you can give that a try and see if it works then I can look into creating a specific download for your system (although I may need you to assist with creating instructions and maybe sending some photos of the process??)

No Problem I would be happy to contribute in this small way. Further research shows that most VAG vehicles use VCF so should work for Skoda and Seat.
I'll check it out tomorrow.

I am had one of those days with computers. I cannot get GPSBabel to run on my ancient netbook because of a missing DLL file. And on my MAC GPSBabel fails on the first file (Gatso) with the following error message.
..........................................................................................
V900: skipping malformed record at line 2
V900: skipping malformed record at line 3
Invalid longitude 7762 in waypoint""
Error running gpsbabel: Process exited unsuccessfully with code 1
...........................................................................................
I can't afford anymore time today. Maybe I'll just get the app for my iPhone and use that rather than the VW Nav system.
Anyway I am convinced VAG vehicles use the VCF format after some further research. Apparently VW had a website where you could download POI's (Lidl sites etc) for the whole of Europe but they have taken that down now. There is a Tiguan owners site that has quite a bit of info on loading POI's
Anyway thanks for your help, sorry I couldn't be of more use. |

Right, I've had a play and have got it working.
The easiest way I could get it to convert was to download the TomTom (OV2) format database. The select that in GPS Babel as the source.
Then select VCard for iPod as the output.
This then generates the vcf file in the format below:
Code: | BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:3.0
N:NE-GATSO:653@60;NE-GATSO:653@60;;;
ADR:N50 12.540 W5 21.142
NOTE:\n\n\nHINT:\n
END:VCARD
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:3.0
N:SW-GATSO:23109@60;SW-GATSO:23109@60;;;
ADR:N50 12.707 W5 20.498
NOTE:\n\n\nHINT:\n
END:VCARD
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:3.0
N:W-GATSO:2197@30;W-GATSO:2197@30;;;
ADR:N50 13.708 W5 15.664
NOTE:\n\n\nHINT:\n
END:VCARD
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:3.0
N:E-GATSO:3209@30;E-GATSO:3209@30;;;
ADR:N50 09.854 W5 09.607
NOTE:\n\n\nHINT:\n
END:VCARD

If you can try this and let me know how you get on. If it works OK then I can look into generating the vcf file as a download format. |

I haven't tried loading them into my (Golf's) Satnav yet but as you say, the simplest file input option is .csv with the first column (A) containing the decimal northing value, second (B) the easting and third (C) the name.
It’s only the “waypoint” that needs to be in the .vcf file
There doesn’t seem to be an obvious way to include a “logo” for the points though. |
