|
|
Hi
I've just noticed that my 2720 is showing "28-JUL-00" as the date. I'm assuming that this is something to do with last year's Week Number Rollover. The actual time and navigation functions seem to be OK.
I've done two hard resets, reinstalled software v7.20, deleted all maps, waypoints and POIs, all to no avail. I've left it switched on in my vehicle for several hours, and this hasn't worked either.
Ordinarily I wouldn't worry about this too much, as it only seems to affect automatic daylight saving time settings. Indeed, I probably used it all last summer without even noticing. However, when I turn on my 2610 units, they're not similarly affected. This puzzles me, as the 2610 is a much earlier and less sophisticated unit.
I've emailed Garmin support, but I thought I'd try here in the meantime. Any wisdom gratefully received! |

Have you got the date and time set to auto adjust? If so you can switch it to manual set and put in the correct date and time. |

Hi, and thanks for your reply. There's no way that I can discern to set to anything other than auto-adjust for date and time. I've also looked at my 2610 and this appears to be the same.
Let's hope Garmin support can shed some light on this. |

Thanks - I hadn't noticed this before. However, it only allows me to manually input the time. I can't see any way to alter the date. |

It isn't that old. It was brought out in 2005 and last updated in 2008, and hence the above references to the Y2K bug are irrelevant. That's what makes it so infuriating - an expensive flagship device with a crass oversight in its firmware - failing to anticipate a well-known issue.
The earlier 2610 (last updated in 2006) has no such issues. Garmin themselves don't want to know. All you get from their agents is "computer says no".
All they would so was offer me a 30% discount on a product in their now baffling range of dumbed-down nonsense. |

Not entirely.

Update:
Because I love the 2720 so much, I've got another (cheaply!) off eBay. Lo and behold, there's no problem with the date on this one! I've configured both units identically, right down to the customisable tabs. The software version is the same (v7.20), but still the date error persists with the first unit.
The only difference I can see is that the installed maps are different. The first unit has CN Europe NT v9; the second has CN Europe NT 2010.10.
Could the v9 maps be causing the date error? |

Could it be the SIRF firmware that needs updating? I remember, that "back in the day", updates for the GPS firmware were quite frequent.

That's only 13 years old and I expect that about 98% (or more) are just fine and dandy.
