Why would it suddenly decide that 50 in a 50 zone is overspeed?
Rounding error. But why it hasn't done it before? have you averaged exactly 50MPH before.
I think the innards work in some sort of non imperial units (Metric it's called if you want to look it up) hence rounding errors when converted to MPH are more likely.

I've used it 3 days this week, there and back, and today, so 7 beep free journeys and todays trip home was the first time it's beeped me.

Not between every set of Specs, it resets after each camera, but most of them.

Slight increase in speed. Not enough to show on a zero DP display, but big enough to cause different rounding errors on the different systems.
That would be my wild guess as it's pretty certain it ain't anything else.
However, it is perhaps something that @Leo_a could have a look at.
Was the speed of 50 indicated by STA or some other satnav device (or both)?

STA showing 50 for actual and average, Garmin also showing constant 50 .... as both units have always done when I'm under a steady cruise control.

Very odd.

Just revisited the settings and I've changed the 'Variable Distance' from 'Any' to +1mph on the basis that the text says 'Speed difference to speed limit to activate audible alert'

Seems to duplicate the Speed excess warning that says 'Tolerance' that is also now set from 0 to 1mph.

As you say, Leo will be able to advise which one is the most relevent.

Nope. The first one is for the initial alert.
If you set it (say) to -5 and are approaching a 30 MPH camera at 25 or over, you will get the alert. If you are below 25 you will not get the audio but you will still get the banner popup.

The second one is for the overspeed alert (and the one that you need to fiddle with). I have also set it to 1MPH, not because I was getting that problem, but to preempt the possibility of it occurring.

The text of the 'Speed difference to speed limit to activate audible alert' needs to be better. I have had one go at it for Leo already, but can't come up with a short sharp snappy statement to describe what it does. Any offers?[/i]

Ta

Set first one back to 'Any'

But, there is also a 0 mph in that slider as well as 'any' so what does 'any' do ?

Yes, this is because of rounding error.
will be fixed in the nearest update.

'Any' means that voice alert happens always, no matter of speed, once a camera was detected.
If to set -5 mph, then voice alerts will happen on speed higher than [cam limit]-5. If you accelerate and speed gets higher than [limit]-5, the app will speak you alert once.

Ah right, so for 'Always' set 'Any', got ya Smile

@Leo_A did you manage to reproduce the overlapping warning 'hands free' issue?

Yes, actually there are two problems.

First, not perfect implementation of the app sound subsystem in its part that manages BT & handsfree. To be honest, I'm afraid to touch it in days before the update.

Second problem - silly app behavior for the situation when two cameras of one type, one limit, and one direction stand in yards from each other. No need to speak it twice. And this problem I'm going to fix in the update, it is easy.

This is a partial solution, sound subsystem is not good yet, but risk of the problem is much lower.

Hi.
Some news about STA. I've just rolled out new version to beta-channel.
What's new and what to expect in production release.

1) "Time to camera" slider for the first warning.
2) Dedicated settings for the tolerance. Now it is more flexible and allows to set +2mph+10%. By default, it is applied only for road limits (if road network loaded). Also, there are two checkboxes (off by default) applying tolerance to fixed cams and av. speed zones.
3) Less annoying alerts for av. overspeed. The app gives short alert signal repeating every 6 seconds if necessary. This works more precise with loaded road network, when the app can calculate av. zone length and the speed to maintain to get to the next SPECS in right time.
4) Bug fix for BT-handsfree mode, when the app couldn't "hang up" if TTS receives next message while speaking previous. (@Kremmen - it turned out that it is easier to fix audio part).
5) Fix for rounding errors.

If final tests succeed, I'll promote it to production in a few days.
