|
|
UKspace has released its 2020 manifesto in which it reiterates the importance of the UK having its own GPS System post-Brexit.
The manifesto says the UK must secure participation in a global satellite navigation system either via the ESA's Galileo programme or by developing its own sovereign system.
Britain quit the Galileo program in November 2018 after investing more than £1.4bn but the estimated £5bn costs of developing its own makes a sovereign system unlikely. UKspace is calling for increased ESA funding saying "European Space Agency (ESA) funding is fundamental to ensuring that industry can develop and manufacture the space technologies, capability and supply chains needed to secure the United Kingdom’s role in the global space market".

We quit.
We threw our dummy out.
The rules say that to be fully involved in development, you have to be an EU member.
We didn't like that rule because it didn't suit us.
We could have applied to continue access to Galileo’s secure public regulated service (PRS), an encrypted military grade signal, but our government has argued that it also needs oversight of the technology and its future development if it is to have confidence in the security of the system.

Instead, we are to develop our own, and rebuild our Empire, and pretend we are great again. Lets hope we can still receive signals from space whilst our heads are buried in the sand. _________________ Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Nexus 5, Galaxy tab S3. The reality is that due to Brexit, the EU excluded the UK from any involvement in the security of the project. This would have meant in the event of any conflict, our armed forced would be relying on a GPS system that they would never know if it was secure or not.
No one spat a dummy out, it would not be in the interests of the UK to rely on GPS under those terms. |

Apart from Alex, is there anybody else on here who thinks leaving the EU is a good thing? _________________ Dennis

Seeing as you asked, Yes. And anyone who thinks otherwise is silly. And that includes just LESS than half (i.e. the minority) the population.[/b] And one party leader doesn't even know what he wants. |

And me.
When you look at where the EU is headed it's scary. They are trying to turn the 28 member states into one large unit controlled exclusively from Brussels.
The end result being no country will have its own government.
And when you look at the prominent country with the most influence it's even more scary. _________________ Satnav:

Slightly tongue in cheek, but, what failed in two World Wars, can be achieved by other means! |

When we are independent, Great Britain will be able to save the world from pollution, climate change and every other threat posed by all the irresponsible countries. Hurray for independence! Actually, it could be even better if we had independent cities - imagine it, Shrewsbury saves the planet! Shrexit, wonderful. _________________ Dennis

Isn't it strange that the wee lassie in a helmet wants independence from England but wants to stay subservient to the EU.
On a slightly different note, I have never heard anyone show such hatred for a political party as she does for the Conservatives. Such extreme views should be considered to be a hate crime. |

Holy Galileo off-topic, Batman !! (Even though there's truth there).
But, based on what rf065 said, why can't we rely on the security of Galileo (even as outsiders) - given that Germany et al will rely upon it ??

There's a lot of GPS spoofing being reported around the Black Sea area, Russia, Iran & China are reported to be working on these systems. Ships that were in the main shipping lanes, after a flicker on the screen, suddenly appeared to be docked in port.
Imagine in any conflict, if you were able to show all your enemies boats/planes/vehicles in any place you chose rather than their real positions.

Forgive me but can I ask how many would vote differently from what they did back in 2016 either way? Personally I voted leave in '16 and am even more for leave now than then. |
