Over 4,400 speeding drivers have been caught by the A90 average speed cameras in three months. The point-to-point devices are located between Stonehaven and Dundee in Scotland.

The figures, between July and September, show that there was a significant rise from the same period last year when only 2,567 tickets were issued.

The total offences recorded from the first nine months of 2019 have increased from 8,146 last year to 10,021.

It's reported that the cameras have earned £1.2 million since their launch in October 2017.

Although a Transport Scotland spokesman said: "The £2 million investment in average speed cameras on the A90 has already helped to significantly improve driver behaviour.", North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald commented: "The evidence appears to suggest that average speed cameras have not yet had the desired effect of reducing the number of drivers breaking speed limits."

I personally cannot imagine any scenario where the speed cameras have not had an overall effect on speed since their introduction.

But has "The evidence appears to suggest that average speed cameras have not yet had the desired effect of reducing the number of drivers breaking speed limits." the evidence supported a reduction in accidents/KSI? After all, that was the reason for the installation, [cynical] not to raise revenue surely?[/cynical]
