GPS delay compensation?

as it seems common that displays in GPSs can be 'slow' - i.e. you see a junction after you've passed it, or get less warning than you'd like, why don't they put more compensation in for that?

eg, if you are going at 60mph (which the software knows), and going down a road with no junctions, why not push the map forwards a bit - predict where you will be with a bit of common sense.

Surely that would help a lot with the usability of these things?

two things

- the lag is systemic, and could also be caused by other factors (urban canyons, atmospheric disturbances). When you come to a stop the position may or may not come closer to where you are. Realistically you have a chance that it matches within 15 to 50 meters
- Have a look at XTrac II - they are trying to do this kind of tricking the receiver... I think it's not much use for street navigation though. Most of the programs use a snap to road mechanisme that compensates the lag pretty well.
