Thanks. for the information on the camera situation. Just used to seeing and hearing a warning on my now defunct TomTom. Tried to install a software and Map upgrade since my last post. Software installed. The Map installation got to "Step 2 of 2" Download was ok, Preparing failed twice and on the third attempt failed during "Copying Files". Error message said " An unexpected error has occurred and Garmin Express must close" Contact Customer support if this continues. They suggest reinstalling Express which I have done but I get the same result

Check the amount of free space in your device. If there isn't much you can get that error.

The error may also be caused by a corrupt application configuration file. Deleting the configuration folder will allow this file to be recreated.

To delete the configuration folder:

Press the Windows key + R
Type %localappdata%
Right-click the Garmin_Ltd._or_its_subsid folder
Click Delete
Click Yes if prompted to confirm the deletion if prompted

As I have already said one of the main reasons for moving from TomTom to Garmin was so I could continue using PGPSW Camera Alerts. I must say I didn't expect so many problems. The Drivesmart 61LMTD doesn't come cheap. Thanks to help from this Forum I can now update my maps. Not a problem Garmin could help me with! So I turn once again to you for help.

I can load PGPSW Camera Files onto my device ok and they are all visible in Custom POIs. However I cannot for the life of me get them to show on the map or give any warning. I have tried exceeding the limit on approach to a camera but nothing shows.

There appears to be a problem with the Garmin Camera alert as well. The Cameras show on the map and a visual warning flashes up but there is no sound warning. I have tried Single Tone and Continuous Tone settings but to no avail. I have tried switching the radio off to minimise background noise but still nothing. Ok I am 78 and I guess my hearing is not as sharp as it used to be but have a test each year so I know I do not have a problem.

I am beginning to regret moving away from TomTom. As things stand neither device with allow PGPSW to operate so I might as well have stayed with TomTom.

Well both work so either your device is faulty or you have something wrong somewhere. There are a number of settings that could affect the warning tones and you may also have incorrectly loaded the PGPSW camera files. Let's start with the Garmin ones because if they then sound a tone we know it's not the device.

First, I assume you get direction instructions so the device itself isn't muted?

Second, go to Settings, Proximity alerts, Alerts. Are Custom POIs ticked? You say you've selected Settings, Proximity alerts, Audio and that isn't off?

Spot on

They do work, they are not that complicated.

Either follow my Spoon Feed thread that goes through the steps one by one, or, install my CSV Converter that has some inbuilt checks.

Have you checked the device POI folder, in Windows, for the large GPI camera file. Then have you checked in Windows for the SOX.Exe file. Without that the cameras will be silent.

Maybe you can list here 'exactly' what you've done so far.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes Directions work fine. Yes POIs are ticked and Audio is not Off. At the moment it is set at Continuous Tone but neither option works.

OK. Simple question. When you switch off do you tap the power button and put it to sleep or do a full shutdown? If the former try a full shutdown to see if anything changes. If still not working then try a master reset. To do so:

1. Power on the device
2. When the first copyright screen appears, press and hold the lower right hand corner of the touchscreen
3. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when "Erase all user data?" appears
4. Touch Yes (If text language is not in English, this is the button on the right)
5. The device will now reset.

Another option to perform a master reset for these devices:

1. Touch View Map
2. Touch the Speed icon
3. Touch and hold the speedometer for approximately 5 seconds
4. Release your touch when the Diagnostics Page displays
5. Touch Clear all user data
6. Touch Yes when prompted to "Erase all user data?"
7. The device will now reset.

Note this will erase all your favourites etc. If you wish to back those up copy current.gpx from the GPX folder to your PC.

If after a master reset there is still no audio warning call Garmin on their Freephone number 0808 238 0000

HI sussamb

This is going to sound a bit silly but I seem to have sorted it to a degree but I don't know how! While I was holding the Garmin reading your post I must have pressed something which took me into a technical page. In the bottom left there was a Tone volume setting. It was set to 0. I increased this to 6 and providing I don't have the radio on I can now just hear a tone warning. If I knew how to get back to the setting I would like to increase the volume. I might be clutching at straws but at the moment I'll try anything. Not the Device information mode by the way.

Any Ideas!!

Sorry but no idea what you may have done. Shame you don't as it would have been good to know but glad it's sorted.

If you are just getting the 'tone' then you haven't followed the Spoon Feed thread instructions.

If you had you would get spoken warnings that are slightly louder than the navigation instructions.

Oh, right.

I assumed, wrongly, that we were discussing our superior cameras
