i have an Ipaq 3950 and require a GPS setup on it. I feel that the jacket option is the most practical and am considering the Navman 3450 jacket. I would appreciate any feedback from users of this sleeve as to its practicality and functionality. Will this jacket work ok with my Ipaq (non-bluetooth) and with sofyware such as TomTom Navigator 3?
Anyhelp would be most grateful
regards

Jim

I have used a Navman jacket for a couple of years and I reckon it's great. The newer SE sleeve has an external aerial socket which is an advantage, especially with so many new cars having athermic windscreens. Mine does, so I have an aerial on the rear luggage space cover, which works well. I also like the CF slot in the sleeve, although when using this configuration in conjunction with my iPAQ 5555 I did experience strange lockups whereby the unit would continue in navigation mode but wouldn't let me do anything! I never had those problems using my 3970 though, and using an SD card in either iPAQ has never resulted in this strange behaviour.

I like the fact that I can carry the GPS solution around as one unit, too. The only downside that I can think of is that it doesn't last too long as a GPS unit on battery power.

Oh and yes, it will work with TT3 or any other NMEA software.

I've recently got a Navman SE sleeve (the one that ships in the Navman 3450 pack) and have been using it together with a ipaq 3850 and TomTom 3. All the s/w and maps are on a 256Mb SD card in the ipaq.

All works fine, it's currently directing my around Scotland. Am getting a steady 7 sats when driving, sometimes 8.

You do need to install the Navman driver onto the ipaq so that the sleeve initialises OK. The Navman instruction said that I 'd also have to install their full software as well as the driver, but that is clearly BS.
