Hi MaFt .. thanks for the response, as I say, I have no knowledge of android apps/apks etc etc, so have no wish/ability to argue with anything you say .. however the point I was trying to make revolves around your comment
"We're not running a 'Marshmallow App' so the permissions are agreed by the user at the time of install as opposed to asking per permission as it happens in the app."
I accept you are not running a marshmallow app, but the rules in marshmallow appear to have changed and require a different approach if my reading is correct (which it may well not be !!).
"Android 6.0 Marshmallow introduces one of the largest changes to the permissions model with the addition of runtime permissions, a new permission model that replaces the existing install time permissions model when you target API 23 and the app is running on an Android 6.0+ device."
If the app has not been updated to provide this additional "layer" perhaps that is why it crashes ?? I certainly get asked for no permissions at any time either during or after installation
Regards

Progress perhaps .. ??
Sony today did a large upgrade to the xperia, which seems to have taken me to Android 6.0.1. So I tried re-downloading and installing CamerAlert... I was, for the first time, asked to give permissions, which I did, and the app "appears" to run ok .. at least it runs without crashing instantly !! I can't fully check it as I can't get the latest database until I renew my subscription... I hadn't done that as the app didn't work !! So .. I guess I now have to take a chance .. I'll let you know once the subscription goes through ....
EDIT ...
Subscription renewed and new device linked, database downloaded and been on for nearly an hour, ok I'm not moving but the app is running !! I'll give it a proper test tomorrow got to do about 150 miles, we'll see how it behaves then .. but looking good right now.
Thanks for all the help .. |

Oh good!! I'll make sure this gets mentioned in the newsletter and will contact those who have requested help in the support.
So, basically, as I assumed it must have been something to do with Sony's hacks on Marshmallow...

Quick update, used it throughout the journey both there and back and it seemed to work OK, total mileage 146.
Only comment is it seems to be slow loading maps, often sitting with a very fuzzy picture until you go "list only" then back to "maps", but certainly did not crash at all. Shame it can't/doesn't use the "off-line" map stored in google maps but continually tries to download its own versions.
However .. it's up and running |

My Z5 has just updated the operating system and Camera Alert seems to be running fine now. Nice to have it back |

|

Lost the functionality for a while with an instant crash at start up following update to Android 6.0.0 on my Xperia Z3, updated to Android 6.0.1. Still didn't work and then left it for a few months.
Decided to spend some time on it today.
Checked the App permissions in location and Storage and all seemed fine, checked other areas and camera alert did not appear (contacts, microphone etc)
So I uninstalled and re-installed and everything works fine now, out of curiosity I looked at the app permissions and noticed the app wants one for phone? So I disabled phone access in the app permissions settings and again the app crashes at start up. Before uninstalling I do not recall seeing camera alert in telephone permissions.
Great to have it back

My xperia kept not seeing my sim so it went off for repair under warranty. It arrived today. Not sure exactly what android version I was at before, 6 something but I'm now at 6.0.1. Anyway now cameralert refuses to start. Any ideas. I've been through the topic and checked all permissions etc.
Thanks |
