Hi all,

I am looking for a solution for those sunny days when I take the bike into work.
I ride a GSX-R and it's mostly a toy, not transport. On the days when I ride to work, I would love to be able to have my PGPSW database keep me safe against me not concentrating.
I do not have a TomTom Rider etc on the bike, just factory standard. Nor do I have any bluetooth tech in my helmet.

Can anyone advise of the simplest (read: cheapest) way to be warned of cameras?
I was thinking I could use the mobile app (CamAlert) on my Android phone and get vibration warnings in my inside jacket pocket but this doesn't seem to be strong enough against the wind buffeting and bike vibrations.

Has any other rider found a cheap or free way to get warned without having specialist bluetooth kit or a dedicated satnav until cluttering up the bike? I would be open to retrofitting bluetooth to my helmet if it's not mega pricey and doesn't make my ears uncomfy. For info, I use a Shoei XR1000.

Many thanks for your experience,

Philippe

Not HiTech but it is Bluetooth. I have a Sony SBH2something-or-other which connects to my Android CamerAlert phone. I keep the phone in my top-box and the body of the Sony device in my motorcycle jacket top pocket and only plug in one ear piece so that I can still hear traffic noise.

A quick look on Amazon and Non-Sony bluetooth thingies are just earpieces for a tenner. But why not just keep the Android in your top pocket with ear plug(s) extending up into to your helmet?

Just as an aside, I also have a TomTom Rider fitted to my moto. Without this, the many alerts from my Android CamerAlert would not make sense without a visual display. The various cones of detection in CamerAlert do throw up a multitude of *false alerts*.

Hi Ali,

Thanks for the painfully obvious solution. A single cheapie headphone is clearly an elegant and simple solution.

I think you might be right about the false alarms but I am willing to put up with "moaning Minnie" in my ear as I'm not a habitual speeder. I would rather say "yes dear" to myself as I cruise past an empty stretch of road with no camera than miss one.

I did have a little look on the net today after posting and it looks like with a little work, I could add Bluetooth to my XR1000 for about 40 and a half hour's fiddling. Might be worth a shot at that if the headphone proves effective.

If anyone can recommend a Bluetooth set with super slim speakers, I'd be grateful. The XR1000 is pre-headphone compatible so it's a snug fit apparently.

Thanks again forum folks!
