Block Their Shot Man Arrested

Following on from our story on the 5th January: Facebook Campaigners Block Speed Camera Shots, a Queensland man has been arrested.

The 'Block their Shot' Facebook page has been encouraging motorists to block the view of mobile speed camera vans. Many have responded and were happy to have their pictures on Facebook for all to see.

As predicted, the first arrest has taken place and an unnamed man has been charged with obstructing police and contravening a direction.

He claimed that his car had broken down in front of the camera van (as did many others on 'Block their Shot'), but he refused a police roadworthiness check.

Queensland's Acting Assistant Police Commissioner, Mike Keating said: "High visibility policing is an effective deterrent for speedsters. We know that when people spot us on the side of the road – their natural reaction is to slow down."

He added: "Obstructing the view of a speed camera is stupid, selfish and achieves nothing except allowing a speeding driver to get away with putting other lives at risk."

Keating has directed police to make more arrests "if it's appropriate to do so".
