hey
currently using 303MMF
I'm happy with it
it is not very fast but is good enough
it has some delays only sometime b4 getting a fix... and it gets no fix in New York City (Manhatan)
so I was wondering should I try to go with the new 303S?
my concern is that
303S is xtract chipset, and I would not like see ing lagging while driving...
How would you compare the 303S with 303MMF recieption and preformence...
you think the 303s aloane would get some fix in NYC or I should get an external antenna?
hope Dave or Mike could give me good profesional advice that could make my mind,,,
thanks in advance! |

What sort of delays are you experiencing on the first fix, and are you using it in-car all the time ?
Fix time should be less than a minute in most cases, and certainly not longer than 2 mins. If you're using it in-car all the time, you may have a UV coated windscreen and this may be dampening the signal. How many sats do you usually see when you do have a fix ?
XTrac will help in canyon environments where you have tall skyscrapers near by but it will also give you some inaccuracies because it's trying to use data that wouldn't usually be used and discarded because of the quality of data, so you may find positional errors occur when you are using XTrac if it's having to use more bad data than good. |

Thanks Dave for the reply and sorry for my delay in response
I use the 303MMF CF card in car with my Ipaq 5455 wM2003 using TomTom 2.24 USA
I usually get a fix in less than 1:30 min around 4-5 satellites around my house
my question was about Xtrac Version 2
I know Xtrac uses the low quality data also, but I heard that they fixed it a lot in version 2 (by software update I guess) and it would work like standard GPS when it has enough good data, and only goes to XT mode when needed..
so based on that
kowing the Haicom 303S is a Xtrac V2
would I still exprience the lag of xtrac or the inacuracy of that in regular usage...?
I sometimes go to Downtown NewYork (NYC) and those tall buildings kill my fix in the whole city... so basically my 303MMF does not work in downtown, that is why I was intrested in the new technology hoping that could help the situation...
well I guess getting a fix in Downtown with some lag is better than getting nothing right? any idea..
what do you recommened?
HaiCom is claiming 20 seconds faster cold fix for 303s (30 sec. instead of 48 sec.) which that is also intresting...
What I don't get about 303S is that, Haicom is claiming it is WAAS enabled
"this receiver support WAAS/EGNOS in SiRF protocol"
but I heard the Xtrac chipset is not WAAS enabled...
so which info is correct...? is it WAAS enabled or not? If not, (why is it listed as waas enabled on www.haicom.com.tw ???) is it something that would effect my GPS exprience by any chance and should I consider it?
Thanks a lot
Fred
P.S. will be any review on 303s? |

Yes, you will still get lag, because you are still receiving bad or inferior data. It may be less than perceived under XTrac, but it will still be there.

We don't have one to hand, but there really isn't much difference comparing it with the 303MMF apart from it using Xtrac. |
