Is the traffic data received different (more accurate?) when received via the smartphone link than via the DAB TMC? Or does it just come more often?

Both are supposed to update every 2 minutes.
I'm using the Smartphone version and it seems perfectly OK. I didn't try the supplied cable because I don't want it draping across the dash so I can't supply a comparison. _________________ Satnav:

Did you have to pay for it via the smartapp and if so how long is the subscription for? |

Yes I paid for it and it's for life. I think it was £15 from memory.
The only snag is that if you have a built in car bluetooth system then you will need to forget that as you can only connect to one device from your phone.
I have my HTC One connected to the Garmin and an old Nokia 6300 permanently plugged in, and hidden, and connected to the car handsfree telephone system. _________________ Satnav:

That's a shortcoming of the Garmin then, not of Bluetooth. By the looks of it connecting the Garmin to BT is making 2 connections - one for data and one for the calls.
My iPhone 5 and HTC One can connect to my car hands free, my Garmin HUD and my A2DP audio all at the same time.

Interesting.
If I have Smartlink connected and then try to pair the car it cannot connect (no devices found). If I pair the car then the Garmin does also appear to connect but:
When I get in the car the next time, the car HFT bluetooth fires up, as does the Garmin. It's now a race between the 2 devices and whichever gets to the HTC first gets control.
1) I get Smartlink traffic but the car HFT isn't connected to the HTC
2) The car gets the connection and I have no Smartlink traffic connection.
I've tried all manner of things like disabling the phone side of things on the Garmin but that makes no difference.
I've seen posts where people have managed to dual connect a stereo headset or phone earpiece with something else but my setup refuses to play ball. _________________ Satnav:
