North Yorkshire To Get High-Vis Speed Camera Vans

North Yorkshire Police say they are making their speed camera vans a lot easier to spot following an online feedback session hosted by Chief Constable Dave Jones.

Their fleet of three vans are to be covered in high visibily markings similar to that of other police vehicles. Currently the vans are unmarked apart from an image of a speed camera on the side.

The county has been operating the vans since April this year and have clocked up 23,595 tickets - approximately 134 tickts a day. It's reported that 19,600 offenders chose to take a speed awareness course and more than 2,600 have been issued fixed penalties. Over 400 have been referred to the courts.


Assistant Chief Constable Paul Kennedy, of North Yorkshire Police, commented: "The Mobile Safety Camera vans mean that we have the flexibility to locate the cameras in the right place at the right time, reacting to the latest intelligence about driver and rider behaviour and feedback from the public."

North Yorkshire Police already publicise roads covered by the vans each week on their website and through social media.
