I have the above Sat Nav system which can show the cameras but is unable to give audible warning, I am aware of its shortcomings in this respect.

Whilst the system works well for getting from A - B I am surprised to see that it does not include visual notification of the speed limit in my vehicles constantly changing current location.

Surely overlaying speed limits (not speed cameras) onto any map system that is provided in a motor vehicle should be a basic aid to road safety?

I have contacted Vauxhall and also Navteq (who provide the map data) and both agree it would be useful to have especially as it was designed to be used in a motor vehicle but they blame each other and Vauxhall have 'put it forward as a suggestion'.

Is this the same in all other Vauxhall vehicles?

Also, perhaps I have been spoilt by previous systems and my view of what is basic is flawed?

I find the signage generously provided by councils and highways agencies outside the car provides enough information. It was like that for years before sat nav was common in cars.

Yes it's nice to have it on a sat nav but what if a speed limit changes and your sat nav is not up to date? Or the data is just plain wrong? Would you then blame the sat nav for being caught doing 70mph in an area that had recently changed to 50mph?

Probably a similar situation exists when the forums cameras are used on my Sat Nav.
They are a constantly changing POI that the website updates regularly.
I don't think the normal speed limits would change that much would they?

We have a similar thing when roads change and map data becomes out of date. Who do we blame if a road changes?

If they appear on a normal Sat Nav which may or may not be used for driving surely ones used only for road use should have it as a standard feature?
Agree that signs are usually provided as a roadside aid but have you never asked a passenger what the speed limit is where you are?

Perhaps the speed limits are ignored by most members and they rely on the forums cameras to tell them when to slow down?

But they are very often wrong, so even if they are displayed they should be treated with extreme caution.
