Check out ebuyer.co.uk, they have Lexar and Kingston branded SD cards and can beat global's price - and have free shipping. I've bought from them many times. Checkout on here if folk are using Kingston without problems and go for that.

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?product_uid=28948

(I still think CF is a better bet, a known good PQI 40x 256Mb CF card from ebuyer will cost you £3 more all-in and get you twice the capacity of global's SD card)

TomTom have also told me that SD cards are the better option.

My SD card reads at 1mb/sec according to Pocket Mechanic though I've no idea wether this is good or bad.

I still suffer lockups and BT dropouts and plan to install a map to main memory to test as someone kindly suggested.

I don't agree with TomTom, the vast majority of issues we have reported here with storage cards and BT lock-ups(2210) occur when the using SD. My 2210 uses CF for map data and I have never had any lockup issues whatsoever, replace this with an SD card and lo and behold I get lockups.

Back to CF for map storage and other data and music get stored on the SD card.

I had lots of BT problems with maps on a CF card.

I got so frustrated that I threw the BT out, put the maps on an SD card and stuck a gps receiver in the CF slot.

Problem solved - three weeks and no loss of position.

I have removed my SD card and loaded a 16mb map into main memory.

After a couple of 10-15 minute journeys I've not yet had a lockup.

Ok so it's looking like the SD Card was the issue, you can try Storage Tools to scan the card and fix any errors, better still format it and re-install the maps. If this fails then you'll need an alternative SD card but I'd recommend you take the opportunity to change to CF for map storage Thumbs Up

Still getting dropouts - 5 times today within 21 miles. My kit as shown below except that GPSAssist wasn't running today due to an unrelated problem. When I had TTN2 I didn't get any dropouts at all!!!

It would seem that these drop outs occur when the handheld is under load and TTN3 appears to put more pressure on the memory cards than it's predecessor. I'm still firmly convinced that moving to CF for map storage is the solution.

Why this affects the 2210 in particular I cannot answer although it has had bugs with SD access since the beginning and these are probbaly still present at some level Crying or Very sad

How long do you think it should take to defrag a 256mb card? I did a scan with Storage Tools and that found no errors. I therefore did a defrag analysis which reported 24% file fragmentation and 26% free space fragmentation with about 170mb of 256 used. i started a proper defrag which quickly went to about 20% complete but it seems to have stalled there for the last 20 minutes.

Any knowledge out there? I don't want to do anything to stop or otherwise interfere with the card if it normally works this slowly.

Feedbacl especially welcome Smile

I have found that loading a map into main memory solved my lockup problems.

I'm now looking for any information people can provide as to the best way to format an SD card before I give up and switch to a wired version!

Thanks

To format your SD card use Softwinter's Storage Tools which will defrag, verify, repair and format storage cards.
