My friend has a Saab 93 with a built in sat nav.The sat nav cursor moves when he's driving but its in scotland and he's in yorkshire!! He's left it on for 4 hours to help it locate him, changed the shark fin no change. disconnected the battery, cleaned the disc. I think he's tried everything Saab dealer has told him and its heartbreaking to see him sobbing in the mornings Laughing Out Loud Can anyone put some light on this problem please.

What year is this Saab 9-3?

The 2002-2006 system is completely different from the 2007-11 unit.

The early system has a whole kit of parts and a DVD drive in the boot. The later system is all-in-one and all the working parts are in the head unit.

Im not sure that I'm really the person to ask as I've no idea what goes on inside the box...

...but if you have the earlier system, I know someone who had a problem like this and it was solved by rebooting the DVD drive. The only way we found of doing this was to remove the electrical connector from the DVD drive. It's the only way to break the permanent 12 volt supply.

The other thing to check on this system is the feed from the back to the front of the car. The data goes by fibre optics and uses the same pair of optic cables as the audio. Check the connectors along the line. They go to the rear left of the boot, in and out of the rear amp (or if no amp, a connector). Then to the amp under the front passenger seat. This area can get water logged!!. Then to the audio head unit behind the aircon panel (this can be levered out). Then up to the display module.

If you have the later unit. It's either a fault in the sharks fin lead or sharks fin GPS aerial - or the head unit. If you changed this, don't forget that the rest of the lead from the connector goes all the way to the front. If the fault lies in the head unit, it will need replacing. When I replaced mine I bought a new unit. It's better and far, far cheaper than Saab would charge.

You could also look at this one: http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/car/saab/SAAB-OP/ It's only for 2007-11 cars.
