If this was France it would be a legal requirement to carry 10m (minimum) tape measure at all times. ALong with the hi-vis jackets, spare bulbs, toolkit and potty.

hi. i agree that a box junction camera poi file would be greatly appreciated. i'm a speed camera subscriber and just came on here looking for a box junction poi download but couldn't find one. i'm sure it would save a lot of motorists a small fortune in london... |

I was surprised by that BBC report link. I had always thought that the signs for box junctions and turn violations meant there was enforcement not by a Gatso sort of thingy, but by CCTV as this.....

You are right Dennis. We have had tickets where their "evidence" is provided by timed still photographs grabbed from CCTV camera footage.
It can also be difficult to get them to release the CCTV footage. Sometimes they will give you access to a web page where you can view the CCTV recording but sometimes their response is along the lines of "we've looked at the recording and you're definately guilty". _________________ Paul |

A solution to what? You want something which will tell you whether or not you'll get fined if you block a box junction? Surely the solution is not to enter a box junction if your exit isn't clear. Whether there's a camera there or not. |

But surely that argument is equally as valid for the speed cameras that we do support. If you don't want to get caught, don't speed. Simples |

Equally as valid. It's why I never used the red light cameras - I don't need a warning to tell me whether or not I can jump a red traffic light without getting fined. And it's why I rarely use the speed camera database these days. Mobiles can be anywhere, as it appears a CamerAlert user found recently. Only solution is not to speed. |

It's a box junction camera but I think the problem is for cars turning right at a T-junction, where there's another set of lights just after the junction which holds up the traffic. So there's no oncoming traffic to get in their way, I think they just get impatient. |
Spotted this story on the Guardian web site this morning. Looks like tonight's Panorama could be a follow up to the earlier report. |

It was on Panorama and it confirmed what we already know.
The councils are using it as a revenue generating exercise to replace the forced reduction in council tax imposed by the Gov.
Hammersmith & Fulham council being the worst highway robbers of them all.
What is worrying is the statement that many other councils around the country are watching H&F to see if they can adopt similar strategies.
A Gov minister/spokesman said on the program that he considered many of their tactics were probably illegal but Gov weren't going to interfere at this stage. _________________ Satnav:

The other take is that they're simply fining inconsiderate drivers who break the law by blocking junctions when they shouldn't, which makes driving conditions worse for all of us |
