|
|
I have two devices the 750Live and the 740Live...
Both working well... UMMM.. not quite..
I feel that, but don't really know how to check that the battery is not holding its charge as long as previously.
Normally when the 740 is in the car -- admitted only short journeys [shopping in town etc] it will sometimes come up with the message "Battery running Low".
So when I bring it in the house I put it on the desk charger -- the light on the top is Orange -- then eventually goes to green..
I was wondering if the batteries do deteriorate over a period of time
-- and if so what can be done about it?
We would be totally lost [no pun] with out either device.
The reason why we have two similar [740L & 750L] is that they fit in either car on the same mount.
So if I change one I will have to change both.
Thanks

They certainly do.
TBH I'm surprised you haven't noticed it before now!
Especially if you are not using the powered mount and car charger. (Aren't you??)
The battery in my Go740 is totally shagged, it only lasts a few minutes now.
I've replaced the battery in my Go720 years ago, and the replacement is on it's way out now.
Even my Go1000 doesn't hold a charge for very long these days.
There are plenty of battery replacement tutorials both on PGPSW and elsewhere on the web. Here's one for the x40and x50 models
x40/ x50 Battery Change
Batteries are available on eBay etc. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Yes we are using the powered mount.. the green light comes on the cigarette lighter when the ignition is turned on and the Tom fires up and shows to be charging?
I wonder if it could be the power mount?
As the other on is in the winter laid up car at the moment -- we only use one car in winter.. _________________ Happy to meet -- Sorry to part -- Happy to meet again |

I doubt it's the charger, if it's doing SOME charging.
Plus you say the battery doesn't last after charging on the desk either.
Two years life is about it for TomTom batteries. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Or do I have to ? | There is a tutorial that Andy_P linked to in reply to your first post.
Have a look and see if you want to attempt it yourself. _________________ Richard

NO I did look at it but it is way beyond my capabilities..
I seem to remember some years ago there was a "Satnavman who fixed satnavs..
My son sent his there once I think..
Is he still in existence??

You'd think a Li-ion battery would be a fairly consistent purchase wouldn't you? I've had a little Olympus digital camera for 6 years, and like to carry 3/4 spare batteries with it, especially if using flash photography. All I can say is that some makes last 10/12 months, whilst others last 2/3 years. Innov8 batteries seem good in the camera, but don't think you get a wide choice for satnavs? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

the battery they took out of mine was
type VF8 / Sony 503759 A8 / capacity 1320mAh
the only other sony battery ive got is for my 13 year old PC3 digital video camera and that still works and charges fine. only problem i found last year was it would flash empty every now and again for a few seconds and then go back to full so that could be the start of its demise but 13 years usage is amazing. |
