In contrast to a lot of other areas in the UK who are reining back on their speed camera use, Tayside Safety Camera Partnership are to add nine new mobile speed camera locations along the A94.

This follows 26 crashes on the road between 2009-2011. Of these accidents, two resulted in fatalities.

Speaking about the decision, Partnership Manager Arron Duncan explained "the A94 is a rural single carriageway road and collisions often occur at bends, dips and junctions" where road users have less time to react if travelling at speed.

Speed monitoring has already been a feature on the road since 2003, covering the area between Scone and Coupar Angus.

The Scone side of the Perth Aerodrome will become home to one of the new cameras, with the remaining eight fitted between Coupar Angus and Forfar.

Signs detailing the new speed camera enforcement have already been placed along the A94 to notify motorists.

Of the 26 crashes, they don't say how many were caused in whole or part by exceeding the speed limit (from which should be discounted any where the threat of a camera wouldn't make any difference, e.g. drunk drivers or TWOCers).

Not saying that they shouldn't put in more sites, but are they increasing the number of mobile units, or just spreading what ones they have a little thinner?
