Renault Carminat Live Users - Please Read

As you have probably already found, Google Search has been discontinued and is replaced with TomTom Places (you may need to update the SD card to see this new option)

My test of the new system was to sit in the driveway and enter "pub". The closest result it brought back hasn't been a pub for ten years. It completely missed two closer pubs. Other obvious errors were also apparent. Similarly "supermarket" brings back all the corner shops, some twice, but omits the Tesco Extra a mile up the road. (You can do the same searches on line at www.places.tomtom.com/en_gb )

Knowing that TT customer service is abysmal, and figuring that my Carminat is a component of my car and I bought my Live subscription from Renault, I contacted Renault customer services via their website.

The gist of my email went like this:

I pointed out that there was no point of sale information to say that the Google Search was being withdrawn, despite it being announced in industry press 18 months ago.

I also pointed out that despite having more than 18 months to get TomTom Places up to muster, it is essentially useless, and given the improvement over the last 18 months it is not going to be anything usable anytime soon.

I mentioned the brick wall that people on this and other forums had hit when contacting TomTom and reminded them that my contract is with Renault.

I finished by requesting that they use their considerable buying power to insist that TomTom reinstate Google Search.

Renault CS did phone me today and promised to pass my complaint upwards and colate with similar complaints.

Also they did admit to being aware of the change in advance but didn't feel it necessary to make customers aware of it, as they had been lead to believe that the replacement was to be equally good!!

If you are equally unhappy about this, I urge fellow Carminat Live users to take 10 minutes to also make a complaint to Renault.
