Using latest software - but unable to quote version -asnwill appear obvious.

Using Micro SD vard for maps etc

Was working well - apart from a hesitation in computer voice - until I downloaded the latest Euro and GB map.

Now all I get is the TomTom drums scren and then my starting splash screen. It the recycles to the the TomTom drums screen- splash screen.....
I did a backup before installing the maps, and have restored but now get the same even on the restored version.

If I connect it to the computer I get the connected screen - it does not offer me the option

Is it Knackered?

Has anyone any ideas to resurrect it?

If your backup was made using Explorer (not Home), try formatting the internal drive on the 540. Don't use quickformat. Then use Explorer to restore the backup again.

It may be worth doing a reset as per tomtom instructions.
i.e. hold the start button for twenty seconds

I had a similar problem on a Go940 after updating to v895 maps, but reinstalling the backup (with v890 maps) DID work.

I tried all sorts of fixes (the old "create a new Favourite in the Home emulator" trick etc.) but eventually had to format, reinstall AND delete MapSettings.cfg/mapsettings.cfg from the Europe map folder.

It's now JUST ABOUT working OK, but still having the ocassioal reboot and freeze. Also when I tried to do a screen grab yesterday I saw a message I'd never seen before "Unable to store screen grab" or something like that.

I assume the latest Home version was being used to download the maps?

Thanks all of you for the suggestions

The reset did not work

I formatted the internal drive and pasted in a backup but this is now running the map from the internal and not the card!

How do I now revert to the card for the map?

Re other comments - I had just loaded the latest HOME

If there's a valid map on the SD card, then you should be able to select it in Change preferences / Manage maps / Switch map

I had exactly the same problem that sometimes went away, but would then return on the next map update. I tried all the various solutions, but the one that worked for me was to use Explorer to copy everything from the memory card, including hidden files and folders, and put them on a brand new card. Had not had the problem since. Reformatting the old card didn't solve the problem so I think it must be simply that the old card had become faulty over time.
