I'm looking to replace my ageing 940LIVE.

I see the now deleted model 1000 Europe can be bought for a fair price.

Any comments on this particular model which would be useful to me?

It does appear to have it's fair share of difficulties when first released and the absence of the TTHome app but has this now been resolved?

Thanks.

I see that Maplins are selling this for £99, which I suggest is a very good price for the GO1000Live. It's slimmer and has a abigger screen than the 940, which is still a good GPS unit. If you have to upgrade, then I guess that is a good choice.

I now get on very well with the MYTT instead of the TT Home and you can now add your own 'community content' through that connection - POIs etc.

Even with some of the issues resolved the device is still crap.

Why not treat the 940 to a new battery as that model was the best unit they have ever released, the battery on a 940 is easy to change compared to some of the earlier models - Mike

I defer to Mike!! Well, as far as the last para is concerned. I think the description of the GO1000 is a little harsh, though.

Probably, the old saying, 'If it's not broke, don't fix it' might be the best advice.

Don't hold back!

The battery is ok but in any event I use it connect to the 12v socket. The problem lies with the ON/OFF button which sticks when pressed down. (the plastic outer button not the microswitch on the circuit board).

What would device you recommend Mike?

Perhaps it is a little harsh but they often say the truth hurts, I never liked the 1000 and never will, irrespective of software enhancements they can't change the screen which is more reflective than the mirror I use when having a shave - Mike

I have considered this but the 940 is no longer a spring chicken and I could end up with a device that experiences the same problem very soon after.

For that reason I'm looking to buy new. My LIVE services subscription is due to end soon too so no loss if TT wouldn't transfer (if I buy another TT that is)

So any chances of a recommendation? I'm not adverse to GARMIN if that helps.

Hi

I have to concur with previous comments about the GO1000. Very poor screen and extremely limiting MyTT web based application.

If you're in the market for a "new" TT, then check around for refurbished X40, X50 range. Superb devices.

My current unit is a GO540 bought from a Ebay seller who specializes in refurbed TT's. Just recently replaced the battery too. Very easy with the You Tube video guide!

If you're thinking of Garmin, are you familiar with the way they work? The configuration of custom POI's is a bit tricky and different from TT. That said, Kremmen and other members have offered some great advice and help. Check out the Garmin threads on here.

I have the 1490LMT. It is a great unit but after all said and done, I much prefer the TT Home way of working with my GO540!

Good luck mate.

The TomTom outlet store do have a refurb 750 which until earlier this week had about £20 off so selling it for £120.

Afraid I'm too cautious to buy from specialist EBAY sellers of refurbed units. I'm sure many are ok but I'd sooner not take the chance.

I'm going to open up the 940 case today and see if I can refit the button but I'm not hopeful this will fix the problem.

Is this the official TT website offering this? If so,I would highly recommend it!

They offer guarantees and in most cases the very latest map and sometimes a LIVE subscription for 6 months.

Yes it is the official TT website. Price just now though is £140 because discount has been removed.

No soldering is needed for the button, or at least I don't think so. It is the outer black plastic button which is sticking, the switch on the circuit board is fine.

Ahh, phew! Actually, you did previously mention this in the OP. Sorry.

£140 still seems pretty good though mate, especially if you were willing to spend a £100 on the GO1000.

That said, if you can get the switch working, kudos to you and saving bucks!

Think that you may still be able to use the discount code "Welcome123b" at TT Outlet Store to get £8 off the 750.

Refurb units don't usually have the latest maps though.

Here's a link previously supplied by gazza70 http://www.satnav-discounts.co.uk/tomtom-go/tomtom-refurbs.htm in a similar recent topic

Also be aware that refurb may not mean top to bottom refurb - I recently bought a refurb GO550 and found that the battery was dead - after overnight charging it lasted long enough to start booting, but died before getting anywhere. I did a return for which I've only just had a refund (about 3-4 weeks) and bought another from them before that went back. This one has been no bother at all, worked fine, although incredibly slowly with Europe map on Micro SDHC card - that may have been my own fault for buying a cheap supposedly Class 10 card.
