I currently have my Gamin 2200 hard wired in via a third party unit and it is working perfectly with the wire almost invisible.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001M09L20/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00

From what I can see it gives out the required 5v at 1 amp.

I'm considering getting one of these new Nuvi 50 units which also seems to require 5v @ 1 amp via a Mini USB.

I wonder why the car power leads have different part numbers and should I gamble that my hardwire setup will be OK ?

The power lead for the nuvi 30 I recently reviewed is:

Part Number: 320-00239-40
Output: 4.75-5.25 VDC 1.0A

It's also mini-USB (standard Garmin for X number of years!)

If that helps? The only difference between the nuvi 30 and the nuvi 50 is the scree size so I'd take a guess that the power lead you have installed will be fine.

Nuvi 50 all up and running.

As you said - working perfectly OK on the existing hardwire setup.

Surprising how much more you can see with a 5" screen when compared to my, now obsolete 2200.

Plus a bonus that I got a free one off map update to the 2013 version Very Happy
