Spotted this rather interesting Bluetooth device on a web trawl today. Parrot, a French Bluetooth Car-kit manufacturer have produced a new model that integrates GPS. The rather novel solution allows you to connect to your cell phone for BT Voice and either to the same phone or a PDA to supply GPS data in the standard NMEA 0183 format.
I'm going to make some more enquiries as this seems like a superb solution but what are your thoughts on this kind of integration, a great idea or an expensive toy?

Looks like the ideal next step for those that have used PDA based navigation as a toe-in-the-water to see if in-car navigation is for them.
I think I'd consider this for my next car, since it kills several birds with one stone, namely handsfree kit for the mobile, wiring in of GPS receiver, and not having a receiver baking on the dash (as this has an external antenna). Even at £180 it still makes PDA-based navigation viable over manufacturer's builtin systems.
I look forward to a PocketGPSWorld review in November hopefully with installation details/costs included. |

The website I found while looking for a supplier said it wasn't released until November 2004. Do you know different?

Ah I see, I understood availability was July but having now checked it is in fact Nov. I'll be requesting a review unit so check backa round then
