Agreed Andy. But there has been a lot of damage casused, especially with new customers who are not use to how this company operates. I would imagine anyone who has purchased a unit since 31st March would have sent it back for a refund. |

Of course.... No company wants that sort of hassle and bad press.
But think how many actual product recalls there are in other areas too, such as the car industry.
At least no one has had to send their devices back to TomTom for repair, as some of us "old hands" thought may have to happen this time. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

They are now saying the original fault lay in the third-party software supplied by the GPS chip manufacturer.
I think that this time they have been pretty swift at finding a solution. |
But what is the betting that they already had the updated third-party software sitting on their shelves for months, but had not bothered to include it in 11.035?
It would explain the 'quick fix'. _________________ Tomtom Go 1005

Is this only affecting those devices with App 11.*** or is it others with App 9.4**
I have the TT 740Live and the TT 750Live with App 9.401 and now HOME is asking me -- with no alternative as the tick box is greyed out -- to down load App 9.430 - 55.9 MB -- Is it safe to do so???
I am holding off doing mine at the moment -- till some one answers in here.
I only knew about this as my friend came down with his TT as it wouldn't get a signal after downloading an App 11.*** a couple of days ago.
but he don't use HOME. we tried every thing even a Factory settings -- to no avail. He has gone home to try to connect on line again to see if it comes up with an answer.. Cant connect on my computer as we don't have his programme. Any info I will relay to him.
Thanks

Only affected those using MyTomTom, not Home 2 as with your model. _________________ David |

Just doing it -- seems to have downloaded OK

Taken the 750Live out and it connected straight away
--seems quicker than previous
Will now do the 740Live...
Thanks

For anyone just joining this thread, TomTom have asked that we post the following information:
Quote: | TomTom releases new software update to solve GPS reception issue on some devices.
Some customers have been experiencing GPS positioning issues since 31st March. The issue is caused by a ‘leap year’ bug in the software of the GPS receiver provided by a third party.
A software update fixing the issue is now available via MyTomTom. The update is straightforward. Simple instructions about how to update your device can be found at www.tomtom.com/386.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience. We are fully focused on getting our impacted customers back on the road. |

HD Traffic is working - haven't tried anything else since the update.

Same as the GPS reception issue... its not as simple as that. LIVE services are working for some people, but not others. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

I have downloaded the upgrade and the gps part of the unit has been fine since the upgrade. Part of what happened ealier was a loss of the HD system in services. I am just back from a 2 day trip and have not had any connectionto tomtom services since the initial problem 31 March. An error code of 148 try later. I still think this problem exists from that bodgy upgrade 5 days ago.
