For those of you who are eligible for them or want them Garmin have now released the latest map updates (2012.40) via the normal channels.
I don't know what the update includes, even so expect a large/slow download for the update files. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

I hope someone from Garmin is reading this because:
Their lifetime maps offer is a downright con, because they fail abysmally to update their maps:
The several major alterations to the A3 are still absent (NOT from TomTom mpas which have them) including:
The Thursley crossovers which have been closed.
The Hindhead tunnel (open for over 6 months now)
The complete removal of the old A3 around the Devils Punchbowl.
All of which WILL affect navigation and send people on a wild goose chase around the area, which is unfair to those who don't know the area.
I fail to see what am I paying for?
It seems to be if I can be quiet honest. Sweet FA!
Perhaps the moderators may like to forward my comments to Garmin UK to see if they would care to answer these criticisms. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

Well that makes a change... usually people complain that TeleAtlas/TomTom maps are useless at updates compared to Navteq (as used by Garmin)

I'm not sure if any of us have contacts at Garmin. If it's just a straightforward complaint, I think that's your job really, as you can give the details they would probably need (such as what map version number and whether it's a Europe or UK only map), and we can't guess that. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

|
|
The A7 to the west of Malaga Airport that is shown on Google Maps is still missing from the Garmin map, this road was completed long before the Hindhead tunnel.
Yet the new motorway near Reims was marked on the Garmin map within 6 months or so of it opening.
One wonders if Navteq are more responsive to road changes if the highways authorities talk directly to the mapping people.
So go to the
http://mapreporter.navteq.com/
and tell them that they are missing information from the maps. |

|
|
Hi M8s
Has anybody seen the Garmin Lifetime Updater offer the new map for installation on the device? To me it looks like that software is very much broken. It still tells me that 2010.30 is the most current version.
But if I log on to the my.garmin.com site, I almost immediately get the
prompt to download the new map 2010.40.
I think I can as well remove that piece of software from the computer as it does not work anyway. Or has anybody seen it working as expected?
Cheers

Try uninstalling GLU downloading a new version of the GLU, you might find that it will do a rescan of your device and then oblige with an update. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

It showed the same here at the top of the window but I think that must refer to the currently installed version. Once updated it shows the newly installed version. |

Hi
Thanks for the hints, but any un-installing or fiddling with the GLU software does miss the point of it entirely. That software should alert me of any updates without my interaction and download it as well.
If I have to fiddle with it, I can as well start the manual update procedure by myself, esp. as the announcement of new maps is very fast here in this forum! :-)
