I want to use my 760 on my motorbike. I've got the mounting sorted and will use the car windscreen cradle to hold the Nuvi. My question is this, if I cut the cigarette lighter plug off the power cable can I then connect directly to a 12 v supply?

Or is there a voltage dropper hidden in the plug?

Well you can cut the plug off but you'll fry your nuvi, as you thought there is a voltage reducer in the plug. Garmin though do a special cable that can be wired in directly to a 12v supply Wink

Many thanks, suspected it would not be straightforward!

Have a search on Amazon for Cigarette Adaptor. I have cut the plug off and wired one of these (3xCig + 1xUSB) to my battery which stows nicely under the seat. Can then plug in virtually anything you like including SatNavs, mobiles, mp3s, etc. Great for touring.

Edit, just make sure that anything you connect into it carries it's own fuse in the "plug".
Edit, Edit, Probably best to add an in-line fuse to the lead from the battery to the adaptor too, just to be safe. Use the fuse which is included in the plug that gets cut off .
