Hi
Trying by best not to be a Dilbert
Search doesn't seem to answer my question as to why parked up Police cars aren't recorded in the database
I realise they may not be using cameras and they are surely monitoring (& possibly acting upon) speed?

It's a Speed Camera Database not a database of where Police cars might park - Mike |

That's an odd question!
If the police are actively using speed measuring equipment such as radar guns, then the location will be (or should be) recorded in the database as a "Mobile" camera site.
("mobile" meaning that it isn't always there, not that it's moving!)
If they aren't, and are just staring out of the window or eating their sandwiches, then they aren't doing speed checks. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Are you saying that every police stand around the M25 should be marked as a mobile camera site so that you get a warning every 1/2 mile? |

No, the only locations that are in the database are those where speed cameras are known to be working from - Mike |

@ M8TJT - Exactly!
@ The Ripper - I was saying the exact opposite. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Andy
I understand that but if you are going to put one stand space in the d/b then every one should be in there because the police could park up at any of them(I've only ever seen one mobile camera in use on a motorway and that was n/bound at the bottom end of the M23). |

NO!
The whole way the PGPSW database is run is that you only report a camera site if you have ACTUALLY seen a camera used there. The same applies for fixed and mobile sites.
If we got a report saying someone just saw a police car on a ramp somewhere, we would reject it.
Even if we get a report saying someone saw a policeman with a camera on a tripod, it only gets into the "pMobile" file of POSSIBLE camera locations until it has been verified by another sighting. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Same could be said for every single road in the country - the police COULD technically park anywhere and check speed. However, they don't - they have regular haunts.
Same goes for the police ramps, if they get used for speed checks then they will get put in the database.

Now my next question
How many motorway ramps are in the verifiers file because I keep getting them coming up for verification? |

I don't understand where you're going with this....
Sure, we get a lot of police ramps appearing in the verifiers' files, and that's because we've had reports for them from users.
Unless there are good comments from the people who submitted them (sadly all too infrequently from CamerAlert users!) then we don't know how many are "good" camera sightings and how many are "bad" sightings, just of policemen eating their sandwiches.
But that's what the verification process is for! It can never be a perfect system, but it's better than anything else we've come up with.
What do you suggest? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions, I will only verify a mobile site if I see a camera there not just because it's possible, for the very reason you have already stated. |
