HI all
Approximately one month ago I purchased an Ipaq 5550, Nexipak, 256Mb Cf card and a Pretec Compact-GPS LP Card. A couple of days ago the external antenna that came supplied with Pretec GPS Card developed a fault (read fell apart ) rendering the card nearly useless!
Anyway I'm considering buying a different GPS receiver, I was thinking that a SysOnChip CF Plus GPS Receiver maybe what I was looking for, but having read the forum there seems to be a lot of issues with lag! Can anyone confirm that the newer CF Plus II card does not have any lag?
Ater a little bit more research I came across the Emtac Bluetooth GPS Receiver which seems just as good as the Sysonchip CF Card.
Basically what I want to know is which is the better option for in-car navigation and compatibility with other sytems, ie, laptop, desktop?
Are there any drawbacks to GPS via Bluetooth?
Also are these the same Bluetooth receivers

I know it's a big ask but any help appreciated
Cheers

BlueTooth gives you more freedom on where to place the antenna/receiver, and it also frees up the CF slot which you should better use for the maps.
It's not as plug-n-play as the CF receiver. You have to do some additional steps to open the BT connection. _________________ Lutz

Cheers for the quick reply Lutz
Any opinions on the links I gave? are they the same receiver?
I have a Nexipak (2 CF slots), 5550, so I can go either way, Bluetooth or CF and use the SD slot for maps!
I'm not really sure which way to go
So many options so little decisiveness
Cheers

Yes, it's the same receiver. Very stable, but slightly outdated. Nowadays you get better battery life from the newer receivers, and some more functions as well (data logging, multi link etc). Emtac have recently released the Trine receiver - we reported.
Check our comparison database for details. _________________ Lutz

Any link to the Trine?
I don't think GPSW.co.uk have reviewed it

Right now it is slightly warmer than I am used to. Slightly touching the 100 Fahrenheit...
My biggest problem is the absence of mountains and clear water ("nature" to you and me). The rest is pretty ok. Driving is fun over here. Lots of race drivers on the streets, and beautiful highway intersections. Praise, praise to the navigation systems! _________________ Lutz

what are you talking about? Cents? Litres? ;-)
Current price is 2 USD per gallon, and the folks here are in rage. In La-La-Land it's about 2.50 USD per gallon.
(a gallon is 3.8 litres. Do your math...)
speed limits here are the same as everywhere else, if not even more restrictive. Problem is not all people can read signs. And most of the Texans seem to have inherited their drivers license from their daddy (the one with the gun rack in the truck). But I am used to driving in Italy and Turkey, so I was able to adjust to the driving style here relatively quickly. _________________ Lutz

Over here a Gallon is about 4.5 litres therefore if your paying 2 dollars per gallon it would work out at about 45Cents per litre (about 20pence) , going off your calcs- 3.8 litres per gallon, equals 53 cents per litre equals abour 23 pence per litre.
I am going move to the USA just to drive my car 8O
What type of car/cars do you drive?
I drive a Focus 2.0 Litre ESP/ Triumph 2.5 Litre Straight six Pi TR6,
