Just downloaded the latest Speed Camera updates for my TT 920, but last time I used it on the road, noticed that there were no camera alert sounds. So I went in to 'Manage my POI's but found that where there used to be a large choice of sounds for camera alerts, now there are only about 6, really odd!! Would this have happened on my last TT map update ? If not can anyone tell me how to retrieve them. Thanks.

Where are you looking for the sounds? On the Sound Effects page?

So you're missing the default sounds like "Cow", "Cuckoo" and "Polite 1" etc?

Those sounds are all stored in a single file called data.chk (and on recent units they tend to be duplicated as .wav files in the "sounds" folder too. So that file will tend to get re-installed on a software update but not a map update.

If you're missing any, they are easy to re-download individually using TT 'Home', but a manual re-install of software (posts passim) should get the whole lot back in the single file.

-------------------

But most people tend to use the voice alerts for their camera alerts and if you use the normal installation method they get assigned to each camera type without you having to visit that page.

Any reason why you're not?

I have that sound assigned to MacDonalds, it generally causes a good laugh in the car when you point out why the sat nav is making the noise (Don't think you have/ had mad cow disease in Canada) - Mike

On my 720, it is used for Tim Hortons (ask a Canuck! Laughing ) but, alas, the newer models have nothing but pithy sounds.

As you've still got a model that connects to Home, its easy to download the
original sound effects from there, dhn.

I just tried it with the "cow" sound and it's identical to the original.

(If you've already got a sound on your device, Home won't show it as available on-line, so I had to remove it from my sounds folder first then re-download it).

But the cow sound is one of the built in ones, is it not? If so, can it be 'isolated' as a download?

Yes it can.

As I mentioned in passing above, on most recent models, for some reason they duplicated all the built-in sounds in the "sounds" folder as well as in data.chk, so I have them all as individual .wav files.

If you download any sound from Home it automatically puts it into the sounds folder and any files it puts in there (or any you put in there manually) get added onto the sound effects chooser page.

You can even add folders of sounds to the sounds folder and they appear as clickable folders on screen. E.g. my camera warning voices and also I preferred the old "Polite" sounds to the new ones, so I added them back from an earlier model.

(You can see I replaced the ringtone with a new one too)

Thanks Andy_P and everyone for all the information. The list of sounds you show Andy used to be on my TT and when I used the 'Warn me when near a POI' they were displayed. But they had disappeared, so will try TT Home to get them back. How do you do a manual download of software (where from) and what is Posts Passim ? Never heard of this.

Andy_PHave just tried to carry out your suggestion using TT Home, but when I came to 'Warning Sounds' it said that this feature "is not supported by your device" That is nonsense as I had all of the sounds you listed on my TT 920 previously. So can you please guide me through a manual download of software ?

I'm not sure there's an easy to find write-up on this forum. Can I point you to some guides I wrote on another one?

You MUST do the backup described in the first one first, in case anything goes pear-shaped.
Then try the other two in order (i.e. see if anything in the second does the trick before you move onto the third).

Just did dl the cow.wav and cow.tlv files from TT while I had the 720 connected to Home.

Now to try to get them on a newer unit I have here.

Later............

Andy, how can I convert a .wav file to the required type for the N3 models? Is it possible?

If you put your sounds in the 'sounds' folder, you can use .ogg OR .wav format files on both Nav2 and Nav3 models - no conversion required.

It's only for the "same name as the POI file" bodge that it needs the file to be in .ogg format.
