Any 2460lmt Users Out There

Hi, Thinking about getting Garmin 2460lmt, thought I would ask members of any experience/views on this model. Good price on this unit at the moment at Comet. Have not had Garmin satnav before only Oregon hand held which I am pleased with. Had tt Go 700 for 7yrs now want to update.

I got one on that offer (don't forget to add the code 10gps to get the extra 10% off). I haven't used it mobile yet as I have been trying to update the maps.

The lifetime update is driving me mad - it really is awful. It seems to download each component (and there are lots) separately and if it fails it waits a minute or 2. So far it has been running for 20 hours. Some files that take 2-3 mins include things like Korean EULA, a 40k text file.

I also tried the old map updater and that gets as far as trying to connect to Garmin servers and quits with "The Garmin Server is currently experiencing technical difficulties." Tech support said I should try another computer - helpful?

To get as far as I did I had to change browser and open up the firewall (on OSX). I thought I'd try a Windows box, that wanted to re-install .net and tried to use ActiveX (blocked on my firewall), so I gave up with that and left Lifetime Updater running.

I guess it must work for a lot of people but Google search showed many others with similar problems.

I would be inclined to return it as not fit for purpose but the PND itself seems seems ok and reasonable value, assuming the update does work in the end.

Not much good for you but for anyone getting a new Garmin I suggest you do not download Garmin's Lifetime Mapupdater program as there are far too many flaws in it. Instead do it the 'old' way, register and log in to myGarmin and download from there Wink

Incidentally the Korean EULA mentioned is not part of the map update, but is a software update. Make sure your software is up to date before attempting the map update, use Garmin's webupdater for this and you can reject updates like the Korean EULA, which most of us will never need Smile

It finally got to the end of the downloads after ~24hrs and, to my surprise, the update to the device just worked.

Interesting on the EULAs - I had already updated the software before doing the maps. It does seem very inefficient that all sorts of unwanted stuff is downloaded by lifetime updater and in very small chunks. I never did get the "old" method to work but it may have something to do with my firewalls being set to "paranoid" mode.

In answer to the original question, the 2460 does seem good value at the Comet price if proves as reliable as my 6 yr old nuvi.

I always disable mine while downloading maps etc, otherwise like you mine are set at paranoid level Smile

Bought one on Boxing Day. No problems with map update and POI Loader (Windows 7 and Kapersky) worked perfectly with the speed camera data base. Excellent unit and voice commands work. I'm very pleased.
