Hi everyone

I just found my long lost 910 when I moved house but in trying to update it, I've stupidly formatted it with no backup. So now I have a 910 which I know is a bit old technology now but was very expensive when I got it.
Apparently all TomTom will do is provide me with the files if I pay a fair amount for the privilege which I am loath to do. Would rather rely on my phone.
Please can someone tell me how I can sort it out so it works again rather than becoming a paperweight of dead technology!!!
Thanks

Getting the application software is not the problem, it's free. Just install Home on your computer (tomtom.com/home) and connect your unit. An application will be offered. Install, disconnect from Home correctly using the Device Disconnect icon......

You may need to go through the process again until Home offeres no newer applications for install

BUT..............

Without a map or a backup of one, you are out of luck. You will need to purchase a new one.

One shot in the dark.................

If the map on the unit (before you decided to format it), was itself an upgrade from the original map that came with the unit, it should still be on the computer in compressed format here:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\maps\

If you go to Add Voices/Maps in Home and arrow right to Items on Computer, it should list it under the map section and you can re-install.

Nope no chance of a backup. I lost the 910 about three years ago and have since updated my computers as I was convinced I'd left it in a car I sold Sad

So is that me (or rather my 910) wasted then?

(thanks for the help so far though!)

A GPS unit without a map isn't much good, eh? Confused

You could buy a new map if you so desired.

I suspect a 910 might still get a reasonable price on eBay even without a map.

You can get the Navcore software for your 910 for free but the map will cost, no way around this.

Your problems are further compounded though if you want the Text To Speech working on the 910, the files it used are not available for download and a full set are around 4GB in size, best option is if you know anyone with a 910 who can burn you a DVD with the LoquendoTTS folder from another 910 device - Mike

Crikey, am beginning to think it should have stayed lost!!!!
Tomtom are wanting a silly amount of money to download the right stuff which I won't be doing as I paid enough for it originally.

What would be reasonable?

A Map costs £50 or £60 depending on which Europe Version is required, or £40 for the UK.
