I have just taken delivery of my new Volvo which has a Navteq integrated Sat Nav system. This allows me to import my own POIs via a usb link but neither Volvo nor Navteq can tell me what format my POIs need to be in. Can anyone out there help me please.

In the navigation system itself is there a 'help' or 'about' screen? If so then it may give us a hint on who actually makes the unit and what software it uses. We can then maybe try to work something out.

The question needs to be asked though, why are Volvo selling a unit stating a specific feature but not giving any instructions on how to use it?!

Also, "Navteq" are probably just the supplier of the maps used on the system.
Unless they have branched out into manufacture, they are unlikely to be the maker of the system itself or the software it runs.

Thanks for your very fast responses, I'm well impressed. I have checked the sat nav and surprisingly (or not) there is no help facility nor any mention of the software manufacturer . The handbook tells me how to import POIs but no mention of the format. Looks like I'll have to rely on my very old Medion for speed camera info, unless someone knows otherwise.

You could try a few experiments....

My guess is that .csv will be the format you'll need.

I'd go for Garmin POILoader format first - that's a CSV file so may do the trick.

2nd try would be Other - ASC

3rd would be, maybe, the iGO text format.

I would guess if you follow the instructions in the manual it would tell you if there was an error (i.e. wrong file type) and possibly say 'files need to be in xyz format'?

Many thanks for the very speedy tips and advice. I tried several options and eventualy found it was "Garmin Other UK-GPX". I'm off out later to test the warning sound, distance to camera etc. Fingers crossed, thanks again

There is some information including screen shots from the Volvo system when loading the PGPSW data to the Volvo system on VOC see Here - Mike
