Hello

I'm thinking of selling my Tomtom 730, which is currently linked to my Tomtom account to update speed cameras and for traffic. I'm going to sell it when the subscription ends.

Does anyone know what happens when I sell it - do I have to 'de-register' it from my account somehow, to prevent the new owner using my account - and what happens if they want to subscribe - is the serial number of the unit linked to me and therefore does that prevent them somehow ?

Thanks for any help.

Gareth

To be honest I would leave it working when you sell it as your new unit will need to have its own unique e-mail address and as the system used by TomTom can't handle multiple devices against a single e-mail don't even try to swap a unit on to an e-mail previously used, not worth the trouble it causes - Mike

Hi Mike

Thanks for the advice. The question was more about making sure that any new owner can't use my existing account and is free to link the device to a new account if they want to.

Cheers

I don't see the issue with the new owner carrying on using the original account as you won't be using on the new device - Mike

I think he's more concerned about the TomTom Account, which will still be linked to his email address?

gwjonesey, there shouldn't be an issue as the new owner would not have access to log-in to your account. They can simply re-register it/associate it with a new TomTom Account of their own.

As Mike says though, where your replacement device is concerned, much simpler to associate that with a new email address. Attempting to use an existing email address/account combo is a sure fire route to pain!

Yes, get a free email address from somewhere, and (on the TT website) change the account details to that new address.

Then you can sell the device and give the new owner the new account name and password.

Don't forget to remove all your personal info from the device too (such as Home address, recent destinations, POIs, Favourites etc. A "Return to factory settings" from the Preferences menu will do MOST of them, but if you have more than one map, make sure you switch to each one and THEN do the factory reset again.
