The dreaded error 1001 has suddenly struck my GO740 Live. I have an old application 8.371 stored on my computer hard drive. How do I install this in place of 9.058?

Use WinRar to extract the files and folders to the drive letter associated with the TomTom, when the program asks about overwriting an existing file simply answer "Yes To All" and it will complete the installation for you - Mike

Thanks Mike, I've reinstated v8.371 in the belief that doing so would also enable the SIM card and Live Services, but I'm still getting a message "Unable to connect to server". Any other ideas to get things working again. I've tried all the usual things like flattening the battery etc. TomTom are just saying the usual about "intermittent server problems" but my idea of intermittent doesn't extend to 5 days solid.

Are you still seeing sensible numbers for the SIM card (MCC/MNC, SIM ID and IMEI) if you look on Status and Information / Version Info / Network?

No, all areas are blank and showing not connected. I can get network connected when device is connected to computer though.

Hmmm... I don't think you can believe it if it says it's connected when you're using the Home "operate my Go" emulator. That tells lies about a lot of things!

Clutching at straws... it might be worth gently peeling the label off the bottom (opposite side to the microSD card slot) and checking the SIM card is still fully pushed into it's slot.
Due to the design, it's so far in that you'll need to use something (non-metallic) like a lolly stick to put through the slot and push on the bottom edge of the card to check its pushed fully home.

had a good poke around under the sticker, there is a rubber blanking plug which when removed revealed a deeply recessed sim card in socket.

not really able to do much with it because i was limited to tweezers from a swiss army knife, which don't grip that well.

It didn't seem loose or dislodged at all though.

anything else worth trying?

If you ever need to take the SIM card out, a good tip before you put it back is to fix a small tab of sticky tape over the end of the card. Like this (edge-on view):

Obviously don't cover up the electrical contacts!

Make it just long enough to stick out of the slot when it's straight, but short enough so that once the card is pushed back in you can just fold the end of the tape over and tuck it inside the slot; then you can still put the sticker back on the case.
