Posted: Sat Dec 10, 2011 9:59 pm Post subject: Help please - problem using PGPSW voices |
|
|
I have recently had to do a full reset to factory settings owing to my GO740 misbehaving itself.
Prior to this I was able to use all the voices plus some .ogg files of my own with no problem.
Ever since I have only been able to use only 9 .ogg files to work. When I try to activate any further files it allows me to go to the "sound files" page, but the immediately re-sets to the distance page.
This works in the same way whether it is PGPSW files or my own files.
I am using app 9.058.568435.0, OS 541764 and map v80.3810
Can anyone help? _________________ Furry Fred

Yes... I vaguely remember something like this happening to a few people.
I'll have to do a search to find it though, and I don't really know what search terms to use.
IIRC it was something funny about one of the SPECs files and you had to do the set-up in a certain order (i.e. maybe leave it 'til last)
HOWEVER.....
I'm assuming you are adding the sound files by using the method PGPSW expect you to use for the speed camera warnings? (i.e using the undocumented "trick" of having the same file names for the .ogg files as the .ov2 files have)
The EASIEST way to fix your problem is to add the sound files in the way TT expect you to.
Name the .ogg files anything you like (short names are easier to read on screen) then copy them into the "sounds" folder on the Go instead of the map folder.
Then you will be able to select them on the Sound Effects chooser page just like any other 'bing' or 'buzz' noise.
You can even put your sound files into a sub-folder inside the sounds folder and it will show up as a clickable folder on screen. I do that with my "Simon" voice camera warnings:

Brilliant...Thanks Oldboy...
That was exactly the post I was looking for.
I was fairly sure it was by Darren, but I was still searching for "Darren" + "SPECS", so wasn't getting very far
I still think the "sounds" older method is more reliable though.
(eg I never get a re-booting issue if I try to re-use an old MapSettings.cfg file). _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-)

Sorry to be a pain, but I have done as you suggested with the files (put them into a subfolder of "sounds") but my TT, when looking for the files does not display this subfolder neither does it show any of the .ogg files if I put them in the "Sounds" folder.
Any suggestions? _________________ Furry Fred

Have you got a memory card installed in the device as I have seen strange behaviour with x40/ x50 when the map is installed to a memory card and voices on the internal memory? - Mike |

I hasve the map, POIs and sounds all on the memory card only - just an empty map folder on the device _________________ Furry Fred

Try putting the folder with the sounds in on the device memory rather than the memory card, the Navcore software I assume is still on the internal memory rather than micro SD card - Mike |

Thanks Mike.
This worked perfectly.
Can anyone confirm the location of the latest voices? _________________ Furry Fred

You mean where can you download them from? Or where do you put them?
There isn't a download "page" for the new ones, you tick a box on the camera database download page when you are choosing the download options, and they are downloaded at the same time as the other files.
You can still PUT them in the map folder you're using or into the "sounds" folder, just as before.
The downloaded files will have the matching names required for the map folder method, so you'll probably want to shorten them (to be easier to read on screen) if you are still using the "sounds" folder method. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
