nuLink 1695 not recognised

I recently had to send my 1695 back to Garmin for repair and they returned a refurbished unit. No problems here as my original 1695 had a scratched screen.

As I needed a sat nav whikst it was away I bought a 3950 so when the 1695 was returned i sold it on ebay.

The new owner tells me that the 1695 is not recognised by the Garmin software.

Can anyone offer help?

Have you de-registered it so he/she can re-register it?

Does it show up as a drive with a letter in Windows Explorer?
If it does I can't see why Mapsource or Basecamp wouldn't recognise it.
Did you try it before selling it?
Dodgy cable?
