It would be impossible to separate them, neither is perfect and Navteq is no better at correcting errors.

In my experience, Navteq attend to and fix my reported map errors. TomTom maps apparently feel that nothing needs changing...

Personally, for my area, I prefer Navteq mapping however when down south I tend to find TomTom mapping more up to date with regards to road speeds etc.

Sounds as if it shall be Navteq for me in future. I really cannot abide with suppliers looking down their nose at you, I have found exacly the same as you with Tom tom. What do you consider to be the best all rounder device to utilise Navteq?

Still a bit miffed we as consumers are doing a lot of their work for them when we notify new roads; but if these are the only two mappers available I shall have to learn to live with this. Many thanks all for your advices.

Well I have had final response from Tom Tom, its final because they closed the topic well in advance of their normal 28 days;

despite advising them over a year ago of road changes they still maintain that "attitude"

I can understand your frustration that not all your feedback is incorporated into the next map release. As you can appreciate, due to the logistical undertaking and complexity of digital map making, there will be some roads that are not quite 100% correct or are ultimately missing from the map. Please note that TomTom maps are made by our map data provider TeleAtlas, and verifying mapping feedback for the European road network does take time. TeleAtlas compile map data by viewing satellite images and using a fleet of road mapping vehicles, as well as feedback from our users such as yourself. Each year, on average, 5% - 10% of the European road network changes at any one time. Due to the extent of the European road network, it is highly likely that you will find changes to the map, or parts of the map data may be out of date. However, TeleAtlas do provide the best digital map data available for GPS devices, and your feedback is appreciated, even though we cannot guarantee that feedback provided now will appear in the next immediate map release. This will however appear in a future map update release.

I shall not labour on about this, but its peeved me right off TomTom! Over 12 months to include additional roads that have existed 3 years, I give all details to them on a plate...and still the useless whatnots haven't the savy to include this on the map we pay good money for. It begs the question;how many more can they not be bothered to include & all the while they still take our money?

Well, considering that TeleAtlas is fully owned by TomTom now and doesn't even actually exist any more (tre http://www.teleatlas.com and see what happens) then they can no longer blame TeleAtlas for their delay in providing TomTom with maps anymore!
