Hi All,

I have a TomTom ONE v4, on which I recently updated the bootloader to 5.5128, so that I could take advantage of using SDHC cards with a capacity higher than 2GB.

So, I got my trusty 8GB MicroSDHC card and SD adapter, formatted the card and copied all files (including hidden ones) to the card.

It appears that the TT reads the card now, when I boot (yellow bar across the bottom of the screen), then I get the splash screen (find your way the easy way), and then after a few seconds... BAM! It shuts down. No warning/error message, or anything.

I've tried it with the original card, and it works fine. I've tried it with a 512MB standard SD card too, and it works fine. Can anyone tell me what the problem is, please??

Cheers!

When you boot the device using the normal card that still works what boot loader is shown as installed on the info screen, have you actually got 5,5128 installed? - Mike

Yeah, it now shows 5.51 whereas before, it showed 5.05 and wouldn't even boot to the splash screen (it would show the card being removed with the red cross).

Cheers

It could be a simple issue of the 8GB card not being fast enough for the TomTom, it checks read speed when it boots and if its too slow the device will refuse to use it, is there a small number on the card within a circle? This is the "Class" or speed score, the higher the number the faster the card, Class 2 are not good, class 6 are best, anything above class 6 isn't worth the extra outlay if its going to be used in a TomTom - Mike

Just checked, and yeah, it's a class 4 SanDisk. Do you think it may be something to do with the fact that I'm trying to use it through an adapter?

Possibly down to the addaptor but it could also be a slow card, where did it come from if it was E-Bay then I would suggest the markings on the card are worthless in terms of accuracy, loads of junk memory cards on sale there these days, better to get a card from a reputable source - Mike

IIRC, it came with my Nokia N95 from new. It's always been fine in the 3 phones I've used it with. Only recently upgraded to a 16GB in my phone, hence this one being free for use with the TT.
