Lots of people will have a French map or Western Europe coverage, maps are locked to the device they are issued to, you cannot swap/ loan/ borrow maps as they won't work on any device other than the one they were purchased for.

You can use the TomTom Home software to purchase and install a French regional map to your device, cost i scurrently £40 - Mike
