speed cameras not working

Hi all

This is my first post on this forum after an absence of many years, I have just bought a new tomtom XXl iQ routes europe 42

This is my second tomtom havng previously owned a go 300. the tom tom works out of the box but i have noticed that the speed cameras do not work, it does not give me a display on the screen or any sound when i pass camera locations

I beleive that the files are on board but just dont function at all anywhere

to edit this post i have just read the manual regarding speed cameras and it states to change warning preferences
"1 Tap tomtom safety cameras in the Main menu
"2 Tap Change warning preferences

Thats what i would do but i do not have a safety cameras icon button in the main menu to press

Any suggestions please

Go to the TomTom Plus services option on the menu followed by the Safety Camera option and make sure they are active, that said they are not very good in terms of accuracy and hardly any locations where mobile cameras are known to operate from show up - Mike

have gone to tom tom services

then safety alerts

then i get

"tomtom safety cameras warns you about safety cameras on your route

You can join this service and download safety camera locations to your device using tom tom home"

OK

when i connect to tom tom home they want to download for a fee of £19.99 or there abouts but it say they should be on the tomtom and active when i bough the unit

I think you've kind of answered your own question...
As you say, a version (maybe very old) SHOULD be on the unit when you buy it.
If that's important to you, I'd suggest just returning it to where you bought it from and asking for another unit.

However, as a camera database the TomTom -supplied effort is pretty poor, and to my mind an untrustworthy set of data is almost worse than none at all.

The PGPSW database is available as an alternative, is more flexible, allows you to have SPOKEN warnings giving the speed limit (rather then just a ding dong noise, AND offers free lifetime updates if you are the first to accurately report a new camera. See the box on the right.
