computer recognition

On my friends tomtom go520 his computer running win xp or mine running win7 will not recognise the tomtom to install the driver software. So obviously cannot update the device. Any ideas?

Give the reset switch in the base a prod then try connecting it to the PC, look at Windows Explorer and see if there is a drive letter associated with the TomTom, if not try a different mini USB lead - Mike
