HI,
Just want to know if anyone got the HI-204S WAAS\EGNOS Enabled.
I know it's a Sirif IIe chipset that should work, but i got an ansewer from buygps that the current bath they have they tested and they could not get in to Sirif mode to Enable WAAS.
I want to place an order for this unit but would realy want it to work with WAAS.
Thx,
Ronen |

It's likely you can enable SBAS mode (WAAS/EGNOS) by switching to SiRF mode, switching on SBAS then, if you wish, returning to NMEA mode. Certainly this works on my Haicom HI-303MMF.
This site that is selling the HI-204S says that it's capable of WAAS - so I don't think you'll have a problem, but I can't guarantee it.

Hi David,
Thanks for the ansewer, I order the 204S.
They toled me at buygpsnow that they have succeded to switch to sirf mode and enable SBAS on it but it dose not support SBAS mode in NEMA protocol.
I am using Destinator3 and this is not an issue as i can use sirf so it's ok for me.
Do you know of a situation like this that SBAS can be run only in sirf mode and not NEMA.
I there a down side running Destinator3 in sirf insted of NEMA.
Thanks,
Ronen |

This isn't the first time recently I've heard of someone saying that SBAS doesn't work in NMEA mode on a SiRF chipset device.
All I can say is that it does work for me - Haicom HI-303MMF, 231.000.000ES firmware. When I have a differential fix, the 'type of fix' flag in the GGA sentence changes to 2 and the rest of that sentence contains a differential position.
Obviously I can't make any guarantees for any devices you buy - but I suspect a HI-204S will behave as my HI-303MMF does unless it is running Xtrac firmware (which I don't think supports SBAS, but I could be wrong over this).

I'm wondering if anyone has any success enabling SBAS (WAAS) on the Haicom 204S via a Palm device. I've tried the CruxView Palm app but could not get it to recognize the 204S. (Mapopolis, Cetus, etc. all work fine.) Any tips?
It sounds like it'll be a tall order, but I'd like to have WAAS available in NMEA mode. Any new developments on this front?
I'm going to send an email to BuyGPSNow as well. I'll let the group know if they have any info on this subject.
Thanks,
Dave |
