Pretty basic question for you techy experts out there !
Someone has asked me for a copy of one of my walks.
How can I print it out on my printer to send it to him, or if I send him the GPX or MAP file can he do it ? Thanks.

You could import the gpx file into Google Earth and print the resulting image or you could send him the gpx file and he could study it and possibly print it in various ways including Google Earth, WalkHighlands etc.

Possibly best of all now is the new OS website

http://www.getamap.ordnancesurveyleisure.co.uk/

on which he could see the gpx as a route against the latest 1:25,000 OS map. However without subscribing I don't think he will be able to print.

There is little he could do with the map file unless he has a SatMap and Satsync.

As an Active 10 owner (I assume) you will have access to Satmap's online route planner. That gives you the ability to print your route, superimposed on an OS 1:25k map, followed by a list of waypoints. You could print that out and give it to your friend.

Alternatively, if you have software on your computer which allows you to "print" to a PDF file (of which Bullzip PDF Printer is just one free example), you can create a PDF file of the route and email it to him.

Yet another alternative - if your friend cares to sign up (free) to use the Walkhighlands GPS Route Planner, you can then just email him your GPX file and he will be able to open it in the Walkhighlands system and see it on an OS 1:25k map.

I have recently used this method for communicating with a non GPS owning friend whilst discussing some walks we are planning in a few weeks time.
He has managed to print the 1:25k maps and routes using the "snipping Tool" in Windows 7.
