I have an old Garmin C310 Sat Nav unit that works fine when 'out of home area', which isn't too often nowadays.
My existing 'Camera alert' is a GPX Navigator which has a silly subscription update fee.
So....what are the options for a replacement stand alone Speed camera alert unit, just the basics, no need for lots of fancy add-ons that won't be used, just a sound, reliable camera/hotspot warning unit. Free updates would be nice but don't mind a sensible subscription. The GPX unit is years old and any replacement will last and be in use for years, I don't replace every time something new comes out and most travel these days is local.
Any recommendations gratefully received.
Thanks.

Cheers

And you overlook the most important feature - the database quality.

Inforad use our database and the K1 is a very simple solution.

How about on your iPhone or Android phone?

PGPSW CamerAlert App 59 pence to buy, £19.99 per year to subscribe. Opportunity to get free lifetime updates for reporting cameras (conditions apply, other SCD systems are available, but they're rubbish! Twisted Evil )

Thanks DennisN but of no use to me at all...I am a luddite and don't 'DO' mobile 'phones apart from a very old pay as you go model that sits in the car in case of emergency. Retired and at home so just don't have the need for one.

Cheers

I was in a similar situation recently as my Talex subs expired and I found that the Novus database is hopeless in my area.

I agree with some companies wanting expensive monthly subs which for most 'commuters' is overkill.

In the end I decided on a Nuvi 2200 and the PGPSW database.

I also didn't need any fancy hardware as my car already has a SatNav built in.

Inforad K0, K1, or K2. All are under £50, with free updates.

I can answer my own question now after a reply from Inforad......No it isn't. Might be next year but not at the moment, so...Inforad is of no use to me. I will just have to search out what is available and Mac compatible.

Cheers

That's if you want to pay £250 for Pogo, plus £50 a year for the camera database updates Evil or Very Mad Beware the hype!

At slightly over half that price you can get a Mac compatible TomTom refurbished PND with navigation and Live services, and run pgpsw database at £19.99 a year - no-brainer!

Better still, just get an Inforad for change out of fifty quid, borrow someone else's Windows PC to do the updates, and pay nothing for them — that's the real "no brainer", IMO.

Another possibility is to see if you have a software OS emulator available for your Mac (don't know if it's there, or available 3rd-party - 'Google' search?) to set up a 'virtual' OS system area on your computer. Not clued up on this myself but others may be (you may even find something on here with a Search) - if there is one, that may be a cheap/free solution as well (especially if you haven't got any MS freinds. Laughing )

I think if Inforad with the PGPSW database were to produce a unit that 'spoke' and had a GPS speed readout like the Novus/Talex units it would sell in thousands.

Bootcamp comes free with the Mac, to allow dual booting. But you have to buy a copy of Windows.
