OK... I thought I understood SD "Class" speeds, and have often told people to go for a Class 6 or above card, and also pointed people to the Wikipaedia article and speed table here.
So what on earth is this, which arrived in my inbox today, from a respected company?
I would have assumed the "Class 1" in the text was just a typo, but there's a logo for it on the label too. It's at a premium price and it says it's especially for fast full-motion video recording. [/img] |

Looks like it's a new class - UHS and needs a device which is compatible with it, otherwise it may even be slower than a class 10 SDHC.

UHS-1 technology is an all-new way to improve speeds on SDHC cards. That's good news...
.... but to "avoid confusion" they've decided to use a numbering system for class-rating that's totally different from normal SDHC. Brilliant!
So from what I've read on those links, there is absolutely no point in using one of these new cards in a TomTom. In fact it might actually be slightly slower than a Class 10. |
