|

Seeing that the price of SD cards are very reasonable at the moment, I've upgraded to 512mb. This card has a write protect notch, but does anyone know if I can run Tomtom maps from this card with the lock on? Are the data files (if any) that Tomtom has to create or update stored in the main program folder? Thanks in advance. |

The settings files go in \My Documents, which is always in RAM. However, I'm struggling to see why you'd want to write protect your SD card.

You can run TTN maps from your SD card with the WP lock set to OFF or ON - makes no difference. _________________ ___________

I recently suffered data loss from the SD-Card, and have no idea why. I suppose there must have been some software conflict, or very poorly written code somewhere. I don't want to be in the middle of nowhere with no paper maps and this to happen again. |

Post the markings from the back of your SD card - if it's Sandisk made (which I can figure out from the markings), that could explain the data loss.

Yes, I heard about Sandisk problems with Tomtom. The card I had a problem with is an Apacer SD-M256B1 - 0342SB1285H.
This card is now in an Orange SPV smartphone, and working fine. |

It's more Sandisk SD card problems with Pocket PCs, and indeed any hardware. However, TomTom Navigator works the memory card particularly hard and is the application most likely to show up a dodgy memory card.
That type of code is not one I recognise. That may mean it's an Infineon card, which are believed to be reasonable but not spectacular in performance.
I and others find TomTom Navigator works especially well using either Panasonic or Toshiba made SD cards.
